[Cultural HK] Cheung Chau's Sky-High Piu Sik Spectacle
: :

On May 5, Cheung Chau Island erupted in color as its legendary Piu Sik parade dazzled crowds during the Da Jiu Festival. Tens of thousands witnessed this aerial extravaganza —where costumed children "floated" on towering poles alongside celebrity impersonators, weaving through lantern-lit streets.

The festival, timed with Buddha's Birthday (4th lunar month, 8th day), delivered non-stop thrills: lion dances, pounding drums, and the midnight bun scramble madness.

Foodies reveled in ping on buns—steamed flour treasures stamped with a red "peace" character, promising health and harmony. More than snacks, these edible souvenirs encapsulate the festival's spirit: where tradition tastes as good as it looks.
