May 6, Beijing time—History was made as China’s Zhao Xintong stunned the snooker world, defeating Britain’s Mark Williams 18-12 to claim the World Championship. At just 28, Zhao became the first Asian player ever to win the prestigious title, etching his name into sporting legend.

In his debut World Championship final—only the second Chinese player after Ding Junhui to reach this stage—Zhao defied expectations. Entering as an amateur qualifier, he battled past elite rivals, including last year’s runner-up Jack Jones. Against the seasoned Williams, Zhao commanded the match with ice-cool precision, never relinquishing his lead.

Wrapped in the Chinese flag, Zhao celebrated his landmark victory, thanking fans globally. Ding Junhui, China’s snooker icon, led the tributes, calling it a "proud moment for Chinese snooker."
