[Green Highlights] Healthier Wetlands Attract Growing Numbers of Grey Cranes
: :

An improving ecological environment in Hotan Prefecture, in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is attracting a growing number of grey cranes to spend the winter in the area.

In recent seasons, thousands of the birds have been spotted along the Moyu River, where they forage in shallow waters or glide above the riverbanks. Their presence has added life to the winter landscape and reflects the area’s increasingly suitable natural conditions.

Local authorities have steadily promoted environmental protection measures in recent years, including wetland restoration, the development of shelter forests and improved water management. These initiatives have enhanced the stability of local ecosystems and provided safer, more comfortable habitats for migratory birds.

As a result, the number of grey cranes wintering in the region continues to rise, highlighting the positive impact of sustained ecological conservation efforts.
