Yangzhou’s Zhuyuwan Zoo recently built a private villa for Doubao, a female capybara, and celebrated her move with a lively relocation ceremony that attracted crowds of excited visitors.

Doubao rose to internet fame after she escaped the zoo with two companions, Bazong and Duoduo, and remained on the run for two months. Their great escape captured public attention, with many following the zoo’s “wanted” updates online.

While Bazong and Duoduo have since reintegrated and even welcomed four babies, Doubao preferred life on the outskirts. The zoo decided to give her a space of her own. During the ceremony, visitors participated in a ribbon-cutting, prepared fresh fruit platters, and received special capybara-themed souvenirs. Many expressed how following the trio’s ongoing story has brought them joy—and they can’t wait to see what happens next.
