[China Travelogue] Old Power Plant Reborn as a Café in Zhongshan
: :

A faint diesel tang and the sweet scent of rice flowers mingle in the air as you step into Yakou Village in Zhongshan. An abandoned 1950s power plant, which fell out of use around 2005 has been given new life this June as an industrial-style café called the "Power Plant Workshop."

The renovation was led by a specialist team invited by the village to reactivate the site. The café sits beside broad rice fields, and its design leans on the building’s raw machinery and open volumes. Floor-to-ceiling glass expands the space, while the gaps between old machines are repurposed into dining nooks. The venue also introduces trendy kiln-baked baking, marrying retro industrial bones with pastoral views and contemporary flavors.

The result is a calm, textured spot where industry, countryside and modern café culture meet, inviting visitors to linger over coffee and the harvest-time scenery.
