[China Travelogue] Peacock Topiary Gets a New Winter Look in Nanjing
: :

After 12 days of careful grooming, the iconic green peacock sculpture in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, eastern China, has returned to greet residents in a fresh winter outfit. The seasonal refresh has given the plant-covered artwork a crisp, polished appearance, just in time for the colder months.

Built in 2016, the peacock sculpture stands more than nine metres tall and occupies slightly more space than a basketball court. Its hollow steel frame is clad in living plants, and caretakers regularly change the species and shapes to match the seasons and important civic moments, ensuring the piece blooms and surprises year-round.

Since its unveiling, the peacock has become a signature green landmark and a popular photo spot—a playful meeting point where horticulture and public art combine to brighten the square.
