Tea is a cultural icon steeped in Chinese history. In Hangzhou, the birthplace of Longjing tea, an annual tea art contest is held to preserve this heritage while inspiring innovation.
After a two-month selection process, ten outstanding tea artists advanced to the finals. There, they guided the audience through the meticulous ritual of tea-making—from selecting leaves and water to the graceful choreography of brewing—presenting a masterclass in traditional tea art.
The innovation challenge required using Longjing tea to craft drinks inspired by local culture, such as the Grand Canal or Hangzhou's Ten Scenes. Contestants contributed their creativity: a beverage evoking the silvery hue of moonlight on the canal, a fruit tea featuring seasonal pear for a burst of freshness, and aromatic herbal infusions incorporating floral notes—all surprised the judges.
The organizers praised the contestants for their profound knowledge and inventive flair, hoping these talented artisans will continue to share the subtle elegance of Chinese tea with audiences worldwide.
