Opening on 1 October 2025, the Hong Kong Palace Museum will present A History of China in Silk: The Chris Hall Collection, a special exhibition celebrating National Day, running until 6 April 2026.

Featuring more than 100 textile masterpieces from the Warring States period to the early 20th century, the exhibition highlights China’s extraordinary artistic and technological achievements, as well as its centuries of exchange with the wider world. Highlights include a dragon-and-phoenix textile dating back over two millennia, a Tang dynasty robe with lions, and a Ming dynasty coat adorned with ox-horn dragons. Additionally, an intricately embroidered Daoist ritual robe will be paired with an interactive display to help visitors decipher its historic symbolism.

The exhibition also introduces innovative multimedia experiences, alongside public programmes and a scholarly catalogue. Drawn from Chris Hall’s internationally acclaimed collection of nearly 3,000 works, this promised gift to the HKPM affirms silk’s enduring role in Chinese civilisation and global cultural history.
