China rang in the Spring Festival, or Chinese New Year, with a lively array of cultural events, shopping fairs and festive decorations across the country.

In Beijing, Chang’an Avenue was illuminated by eco-friendly lanterns, 90 percent of which were reused, highlighting a commitment to sustainability amid the celebrations. In northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, Baoqing County’s ski town welcomed tourists with a vibrant New Year fair, offering an immersive glimpse into Chinese culture.

Further south, major business districts in Guangzhou glowed with 5,000 lanterns themed around the Year of the Horse, alongside graceful Hanfu performances celebrating traditional aesthetics. Elsewhere, Xuan’en City in Hubei showcased traditional Tujia light displays, while Jiangsu Province and Chongqing Municipality added to the festive atmosphere with colourful folk and flower markets.
