[Cultural China] Grotto Art Through the Lens: A Timeless Chronicle
: :

A photography exhibition dedicated to China’s grotto art recently opened in Shaoguan, Guangdong. Using photography as its primary medium and chronology as its narrative framework, the exhibition brings together masterpieces of classical grotto art from across China, introducing this thousand-year-old stone-carved civilization to audiences in southern China.

High-definition images unfold in sequence, weaving a visual chronicle of China’s grotto art history. The photographs traverse vast landscapes to capture the diverse expressions of grotto artistry: from the radiant splendor of the Kizil Caves in the Western Regions and the austere majesty of the grottoes along the Hexi Corridor, to the imperial grandeur of the Yungang and Longmen Grottoes, as well as the refined elegance of Bashu rock carvings and the distinctive regional character of the grottoes of western Tibet.

The exhibition also features a restored standing statue of the Eleven-Headed Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva, a work that took the artist four years to complete. It offers visitors a vivid glimpse into the artistic sophistication and craftsmanship of Buddhist sculpture during the Tang Dynasty, making it an unmissable visual feast for admirers of ancient Chinese culture and art.
