UN Tourism has formally recognised Harbin for its leadership and excellence in ice and snow tourism, highlighting the northeastern Chinese city’s growing global appeal as a winter destination.

The honorary title of “World Outstanding City for Ice and Snow Tourism” was presented to Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang Province, at the 11th World Tourism Economic Forum Heilongjiang 2025 on December 16. The recognition underscores the city’s long-standing commitment to developing high-quality, innovative winter tourism experiences.

Harbin continues to draw rising numbers of domestic and international visitors, drawn by its distinctive cold-climate culture and festive atmosphere. Best known for its spectacular Ice and Snow World, which features monumental ice sculptures and immersive displays, the city is further expanding its winter offerings.

This year, Harbin plans to roll out more than 100 themed events, strengthening its winter economy and reinforcing its reputation as a world-class destination for ice and snow tourism.
