[Global Connect] Cantonese Opera Meets Arabian Poetry in Vibrant Cultural Dialogue
: :

What kind of cultural resonance can emerge when Cantonese opera meets Arabian poetry? At the Guangzhou Cantonese Opera Art Museum, young poets from Arab countries gathered with Chinese Cantonese opera performers and local poets for a vibrant poetry event.

After local artists performed classic Cantonese opera excerpts, young international poets stepped forward to recite their original modern poems. These cross-cultural interactions enabled face-to-face exchanges between participants and offered international guests deeper insight into the distinctive charm of Lingnan culture. Chinese poets also introduced the features of Cantonese opera costumes and shared opera-related verses with the foreign guests.

Several Arab poets even tried on traditional opera costumes and learned basic performance movements from professional actors. They were deeply fascinated by the exquisite attire as well as the elegant Lingnan garden scenery within the museum.

This unique cross-cultural event infused the International Youth Poetry Festival with strong Lingnan cultural charm. It also served as a vivid example of cultural exchange and mutual learning between China and Arab countries, connecting people through poetry and bridging cultures through traditional opera.
