A cross-cultural musical performance bringing together traditional sounds from Malaysia, Indonesia and China will take centre stage in Hong Kong on November 6 and 7, celebrating the diversity of Southeast Asian music.
Titled "Taksu – The Spirit of Gamelan", the concert will see Malaysia's leading percussion ensemble HANDS Percussion collaborate with Indonesian group Gamelan Yuganada, blending the powerful rhythms of Chinese lion dance drums and Malaysian 24 Festive Drums with the distinctive sounds of Balinese gamelan.
More than 30 sets of gamelan instruments, including metallophones, gongs and drums, will feature alongside traditional Mak Yong dance and song. The Hong Kong Children's Choir (Chamber Youth) will also perform a reimagined version of the folk classic "Jasmine Flower", bringing another cultural dimension to the programme.
Part of the fourth Asia+ Festival and the sixth Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Culture and Arts Festival, the concert will take place at the Sha Tin Town Hall Auditorium.
