In Hangzhou, eastern China, a coffee shop where every drink is prepared by robots has attracted eager customers just days after its trial opening. Once an order is placed, a robotic arm swiftly picks up an empty cup and places it at the workstation, adds ice, dispenses precise amounts of coffee and water, seals the cup with a lid, and smoothly transfers it to the pickup counter. The entire process takes about 90 seconds, allowing customers to receive their drinks in just a minute and a half.
This open, all-in-one beverage bar was developed by a local technology company. It enables the fully automated preparation of a wide range of beverages, including coffee, milk tea, and fruit juice. A single employee can oversee multiple machines simultaneously, significantly reducing labor costs compared with traditional coffee shops. The store is also connected to the company's 6S showroom for embodied intelligent robots, where more than 10 single-arm and dual-arm coffee robots, along with other smart devices, are on display, making the venue both a retail outlet and a product demonstration center.
The company plans to deploy more than 500 robots nationwide across industrial parks, office buildings, hotels, and tourist attractions. Its products have already been exported to overseas markets.
