An AI-powered robot has begun conducting safety patrols at the venue of the upcoming China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, helping ensure construction and preparation work runs smoothly.
Developed independently by the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, the robot uses AI technology to identify potential safety risks, including workers not wearing hard hats, improper escalator use and unauthorised work at heights without safety harnesses. It issues automatic voice reminders and records footage for monitoring.
Equipped with collision detection and algorithms that track human movements in real time, the robot can also identify slips, falls and other workplace accidents. It operates anywhere with 4G coverage and supports remote control, allowing staff to issue real-time text and voice instructions to guide crowds and manage safety.
The robot will continue patrolling throughout the ninth CIIE, which runs from November 5 to 10 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai.
