Harbin’s Music Park was this year’s lively stage for the city’s wheelchair marathon, held as part of the 16th National “National Limb-Disabled Persons' Activity Day” More than 180 athletes — split into men’s and women’s divisions — lined up for a brisk 5-kilometre race that celebrated speed, stamina and spirit.
At 9:30 a.m. the starter’s gun sent competitors rolling off with powerful arm drives, their wheelchairs streaking down the course as citizens and tourists paused to cheer them on. The scene was equal parts athletic contest and community celebration.
After a hard-fought race, Wang Haitao claimed the men’s title in 22:05, while Wang Meng took the women’s crown in 26:11. Long-distance volunteers served as pacers throughout, helping ensure the event ran smoothly and safely.
Now in its third edition in Harbin, the wheelchair marathon has drawn growing participation each year — proof, organizers say, that more people with disabilities are getting out, competing and enjoying the clear joy of sport.
