The 38th Sun Island International Snow Sculpture Art Expo opened last Wednesday in Harbin, northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, drawing visitors to a spectacular winter wonderland. This year’s theme, “A World of Ice and Snow, a Scene of Poetic Beauty”, spans 1.5 million square metres and features 120,000 cubic metres of snow.
A key highlight is the super-large main sculpture, currently nearing completion. Measuring 103 metres long, 20 metres wide, and 33 metres high, it uses 30,000 cubic metres of snow. The centrepiece is a giant panda in an astronaut suit, surrounded by iconic Chinese landmarks including the Great Wall and Dayan Pagoda, alongside aerospace elements, symbolising the blend of cultural heritage and technological achievement.
Visitor experience has also been enhanced, with heated shelters placed every three minutes of walking, offering free hot water and ginger tea. The Expo promises a magical fusion of art, culture, and winter fun for all who attend.
