Bosten Lake, China’s largest inland freshwater lake, has transformed into a lively winter playground as its vast surface freezes over. Located in Bohu County in northwest Xinjiang, the 1,600-square-kilometre lake draws ice-and-snow enthusiasts each winter, with this season offering an even richer experience.
The frozen expanse has been developed into a comprehensive ice park combining recreation and dining. Near the shore, ice bumper cars, go-karts and other activities bring colour and energy to the white landscape, delighting visitors from across the country. Many have praised the solid ice and festive atmosphere, with one visitor saying, “Everyone is having a great time here.”
A standout new attraction this year is dining on the ice itself. The popular “ice-top hot pot” lets guests enjoy steaming dishes amid snowy scenery, using freshly caught local fish prepared on-site.
The Bosten Lake ice-and-snow season will run through March, featuring drone and firework shows, a Spring Festival gala and Lantern Festival celebrations.
