The Xian Art Museum in Jiangmen, the largest fair-faced concrete building in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, has recently opened to the public. Also known as the “Box of Light,” the museum integrates lighting research and manufacturing, art exhibitions, and the interplay of light, shadow, and nature—using light itself to interpret art.
Its façade features more than 300 fair-faced concrete fins angled at 23.5 degrees, which provide shading, light guidance, and noise reduction while symbolizing harmony with nature and the rhythm of the seasons.
Inside, exposed concrete surfaces—including floors, walls, ceilings, and beams—are interwoven with artificial lighting to enhance the space’s transparency and depth. Seamlessly blending eastern philosophy, intangible cultural heritage, and modern lighting technology, the museum is poised to become a new cultural landmark and art exchange hub in the Greater Bay Area.
