Hengdian World Studios in east China’s Zhejiang Province is giving tourists a chance to step into the spotlight through an immersive short-drama filming experience.

Visitors can select a script and character, put on costumes, receive professional makeup and act under the guidance of a director. A brief rehearsal helps participants familiarise themselves with their lines and roles before filming begins.

The full experience, from styling and set shooting to professional direction, takes about an hour, with the finished video delivered within 48 hours. Visitors of all ages have joined, with many sharing their performances on social media.

The attraction has proved increasingly popular. During the summer holiday, participation in short-drama filming nearly tripled year-on-year, while overnight visitors rose 9 percent. The experience also helped boost visits to the scenic area by more than 2 million.
