Tianjin, a city historically shaped by river transport, is bisected by the Haihe River—the major water network of northern China. More than a vital channel for shipping and irrigation, the Haihe serves as the vibrant heart of Tianjin’s urban landscape, lined with iconic sites such as Haihe Park, the Tianjin Eye Ferris wheel and more.
This year, Tianjin embarked on a comprehensive enhancement of both banks of the Haihe, upgrading lighting systems on 216 buildings, 13 bridges, 8.2km of waterfront, and 7 piers—all under centralized smart control. Directed by an intelligent management center, the illuminations draw crowds of locals and tourists every evening to stroll and admire the view.
The glittering nightscape has also given a boost to Haihe cruise operations. The 50-minute narrated boat rides offer after-dark passengers views of captivating light displays like ‘Nezha Stirring the Sea’ and ‘Hundred Dragons Playing in the Water’. Travelers remark that drifting along the cool breeze while taking in the ever-changing views on both shores is a perfect way to experience the city’s charm.
