Nestled in the mountainous Chongyi County of Jiangxi Province, the Shangbao Rice Terraces span 3,400 hectares, with elevations ranging from 280 to 1,260 metres. Recognised by Guinness World Records as the largest Hakka terraces in the world, and listed as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, the terraces combine history, culture, and breathtaking scenery.
This autumn, ripened late rice crops have draped the terraces in a golden mantle, creating a spectacular view from highlights such as the Bagua Field Viewing Platform. Visitors can immerse themselves in Hakka culture, explore the terraces, or stay in local homestays while taking part in traditional farming activities like reaping, threshing, and dehusking.
The Shangbao Terraces and surrounding scenic spots have welcomed over 580,000 visitors since the National Day holiday, underlining the site’s growing appeal as a must-see destination for both nature lovers and culture-seeking tourists.
