Late autumn has turned the banks of the Longtan River in Nanyang City, central China’s Henan Province, into a vivid tapestry of red, gold and green. As the river winds through this colourful landscape, its surface reflects the glow of the foliage, the clear blue sky and drifting white clouds. Mandarin ducks and other birds add lively movement to the calm waters, while visitors driving along the river road, or heading out by boat, take in the season’s striking beauty.
The river flows through Tongbai County, a transitional zone between northern and southern China, where years of ecological protection and restoration have made a clear impact. Forests now cover nearly 60 percent of the county, supporting more than 1,500 species of flora and fauna, and helping preserve the Longtan River’s serene, picturesque charm.
