[China Travelogue] Northeast China’s Winter Brings Enchanting Frosty Scenery

As temperatures drop across the Great Khingan Range in Heilongjiang Province, Ganhe National Park has been transformed into a winter wonderland. Along the gently flowing river, still unfrozen despite the chill, mist rises and crystallises in the frigid air, coating the trees in delicate white frost. The effect is a magical corridor that seems lifted from a fairy tale, drawing visitors to marvel at nature’s artistry.

The river’s warmth is preserved by abundant geothermal activity, allowing it to remain ice-free even in the coldest months. In the early mornings, a soft veil of mist drifts above the water, contrasting beautifully with the sparkling rime on the riverbanks. This serene scene captures the enchanting harmony of water, ice, and frost, showcasing the quiet splendour of northeast China’s winter landscapes.
