East China’s Shandong Province saw its first snowfall of the season last Saturday, covering the landscape in a crisp layer of white. Along the Yellow River in Dongming County, a gentle frost smoke formed over the water, drifting above the river for about an hour.
The phenomenon occurs when water vapour from the river condenses quickly in cold air, often appearing in areas with low temperatures and high humidity. Around sunrise, the mist is at its most visible, creating a calm, serene winter scene.
For locals and visitors, the brief display offered a quiet reminder of the season’s arrival and the natural beauty along the Yellow River.
