[China Travelogue] First Supermoon of 2026 Lights Up Heilongjiang
: :

The first supermoon of 2026 rose over Tongjiang in northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province last Saturday evening, drawing residents and photography enthusiasts outside to capture the year’s largest and brightest full moon.

Suspended high above the city, the unusually large and bright full moon paired beautifully with Tongjiang’s distinctive architecture, casting a gentle glow across the winter night. As the city lights came on, streets and waterfront areas became more distinct, with reflections and shadows adding subtle layers to the nighttime view.

Shining with an estimated brightness about 30 percent greater than a typical full moon, the supermoon dominated the night sky throughout the evening. The calm winter conditions offered clear views of the rare astronomical event, giving onlookers a memorable start to the new year.
