[China Travelogue] Snowy Mountains of Xinjiang Reveal Thriving Wolf Pack
: :

A rare and encouraging sight has been captured in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, where a pack of wolves was seen moving together through a snow-covered mountain valley, underscoring signs of ecological recovery.

The wolves were spotted at Tomur Peak National Nature Reserve in the Tianshan Mountains shortly after snowfall. Two striking black wolves, a seldom-seen colour variation, stood out clearly in the pack against the white landscape, adding to the remarkable scene.

Conservationists say the stable presence of a wolf pack reflects years of strengthened ecological protection in the reserve. Improved habitats and conservation efforts have supported the recovery of prey species and the wider ecosystem. As apex predators, wolves return only when environmental conditions are healthy, offering clear evidence that biodiversity at Tomur Peak is steadily rebounding.
