A wild giant panda mother and her cub have been spotted roaming a snow-covered bamboo forest in the Chongzhou section of the Giant Panda National Park in southwest China’s Sichuan Province.
The pair were seen moving calmly through the forest at an altitude of around 2,800 metres, with the mother occasionally turning back to check on her young as it followed closely behind. Based on the cub’s size, experts believe it was born in 2025 and is less than a year old.
The sighting highlights the park’s thriving ecosystem. In recent years, monitoring has also recorded pandas foraging in the area, reflecting stable habitat conditions. China is currently home to nearly 1,900 wild giant pandas, with about 1,340 protected within the national park.
Beyond pandas, the Chongzhou section provides a haven for rich biodiversity, sheltering more than 8,000 other species, including golden snub-nosed monkeys, snow leopards, Asian black bears and Sichuan takins.
