[China Travelogue] Dahong Mountain’s Danxia Terrain Dusted with Fresh Snow
: :

A fresh snowfall has brought a calm winter charm to the Danxia landform at Dahong Mountain in Sonid Right Banner, north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

A thin layer of silvery snow now covers the area’s reddish hills, softening their bold colours while highlighting the natural contours of the terrain. The contrast between snow and stone offers visitors a clear view of the landform’s distinctive shapes.

Dahong Mountain is known for its typical Danxia geology. The core rock layers are made up of iron-rich sandy conglomerate, shaped over billions of years by wind and water erosion. This long geological process has created a textured surface that closely resembles images of Mars, earning the area a reputation as a “Mars-like” landscape.
