[China Travelogue] Yongzhou Ancient City: Heritage, Taste, and Tranquility
: :

On the banks of the Yongjiang River, Nanning was a major trading port during the Ming and Qing dynasties due to its convenient water and land transportation. As the largest and best-preserved ancient complex in the city, Yongzhou Ancient City, located in downtown Nanning, has now fully opened to the public. It blends history, culture, cuisine, and leisure, poised to become a new landmark in Nanning.

Water Street’s arcade buildings, some of which are over a thousand years old, are now adorned with festive lanterns. The bell and drum tower tolls as if pulling visitors straight into the past. Traditional dances, bronze drum performances, and lantern parades—these immersive shows bring centuries of Yongzhou history to life, infused with distinctive Guangxi flair.

Zhongshan Street is all about the flavors of old Yongzhou. The freshly renovated shops are clean and inviting, serving local favorites such as ice pulp and pickled fruit. Here, visitors can immerse themselves in history while savoring classic snacks—experiencing the city’s deep roots and relaxed pace all at once.
