As Chinese New Year approaches, a special cultural exchange event took place in Baise, Guangxi, where international students and teaching assistants from around the world, now living in the city, tried their hand at writing Spring Festival couplets with brushes. They also experienced Zhuang ethnic intangible cultural heritage and immersed themselves in authentic Lunar New Year traditions.
Guided by volunteers, the students carefully held brushes to write characters such as “horse,” “fortune,” and “peace,” completing a festive couplet together. Teachers and fellow students cheered them on with warm applause. Through conversations with locals, they quickly picked up popular New Year blessings such as “good health” and “striking it rich.” Calligraphers also joined in, creating free couplets for residents in a lively, festive atmosphere.
The school emphasized that such off-campus experiences are key to cultural exchange, helping international students engage with Chinese traditions and share the culture more widely.
