[Cultural China] Lantern Sea Illuminates Canal City for Chinese New Year
: :

In Suqian, eastern China, more than 100 themed lantern sets have transformed the night into a romantic lightscape showcasing local canal culture. Visitors stroll beneath vast displays spanning roughly 400,000 square metres, pausing to photograph glowing scenes and soak up the festive atmosphere.

Highlights include the sweeping “Tribute from All Directions,” which blends canal shipping imagery with celebratory pageantry; the lively “Spring Breeze Triumph,” evoking renewal; and the bold “Dragon-Horse Spirit,” where dragon vigour meets equine energy in sculptural form. Each installation uses scale and colour to create layered, dynamic tableaux that keep visitors enchanted.

A thousand-year stretch of the Grand Canal runs through the city, and this lantern fair deliberately links that deep heritage with New Year jubilation. Step by step, light by light, the festival weaves centuries of canal history into a welcoming and celebratory scene for locals and tourists alike.
