[Cultural China] Shawan Floating Color Parade: Celebrating Lingnan’s Intangible Cultural Heritage
: :

The Shawan Floating Color Parade kicked off in Shawan Ancient Town, a historic town in southern China, drawing crowds of local residents and tourists who gathered to witness this time-honored folk spectacle.

Shawan piaose, or Shawan floating color, is a comprehensive folk cultural activity in which children, dressed as historical figures or mythological characters, stand on ingeniously crafted support structures to perform in a parade.

Exquisite costumes, delicate designs, and vivid story scenes allowed the audience to experience the artistic charm of Shawan floating color in an immersive way and truly appreciate the unique appeal of Lingnan’s intangible cultural heritage.

This year’s parade featured a grand and diverse lineup. In addition to the floating color formations, a series of themed groups appeared in turn, including dragon dances, lion dances, mascot characters, and fish lanterns. Together, they created a magnificent spectacle, presenting a vibrant feast of folk art to the public.
