[Cultural China] Dragon Boats Drive Economic Boom in Foshan Town
: :

Dragon boat culture is powering economic growth in Jiujiang Town in Foshan, where a booming industry around boat making, racing and tourism is drawing attention from across China and overseas.

Known for its long-standing dragon boat traditions, the town has seen surging demand ahead of this year’s Dragon Boat Festival on June 19. Local manufacturers are working at full capacity to produce racing boats and carbon fibre paddles for clients from across China as well as Southeast Asia and Europe.

Jiujiang’s dragon boat economy now extends far beyond manufacturing. Companies are offering race training, equipment rental and event services, helping create a thriving sports and tourism ecosystem.

The growing popularity of dragon boat races has also boosted local businesses, with cafes, homestays and scenic waterfront venues seeing sharp increases in visitors and bookings. Tourism operators say travellers from Hong Kong and Macau are especially drawn to Jiujiang’s unique riverside scenery and vibrant cultural atmosphere.
