[Global Connect] China’s Tariff Shift Opens New Opportunities for Africa
: :

China’s expanded zero-tariff policy for African nations has been widely welcomed as a meaningful step towards strengthening the continent’s economic prospects. Effective from May 1, the policy now covers all 53 African countries with diplomatic ties to China, extending duty-free access across a broad range of goods.

The move is expected to significantly enhance the competitiveness of African exports, offering new opportunities for growth in key sectors. For countries such as Seychelles, the policy could support the development of industries linked to the blue economy, including aquaculture and seafood production, while encouraging greater participation from local businesses.

The initiative builds on China’s earlier decision to remove tariffs on 100 percent of goods from 33 least developed African countries in December 2024. Observers say the expanded policy reinforces trade ties and provides a timely boost to Africa’s long-term development.
