China stepped up investment in water conservancy infrastructure in the first half of 2026, completing 515 billion yuan in spending as it accelerates the development of a modern national water network.

According to the Ministry of Water Resources, around 33,000 water conservancy projects were under construction nationwide between January and June. During the period, 25 major new projects were launched, 11 more than a year earlier, representing a combined investment of 265 billion yuan.

Construction progressed on several flagship projects, including the Yangtze-to-Hanjiang Water Diversion Project in Hubei, the Guxian Water Conservancy Project on the Yellow River, and major water diversion and irrigation works in Jiangsu, Sichuan, Guangdong and Anhui. Meanwhile, the Datengxia and Luojiu water conservancy projects in Guangxi completed appraisal acceptance, marking another milestone in the country's expanding water infrastructure network.

Authorities said work will continue to advance key projects and strengthen the national water network to support China's high-quality development.
