[Green Highlights] China Expands Green Factories in Push for Low-Carbon Growth
: :

China is stepping up efforts to make its manufacturing sector greener, with new factories, improved energy efficiency and carbon storage projects supporting its push towards a low-carbon future.

Since the beginning of this year, the country has added 2,038 green factories and 128 green industrial parks. These factories now account for 22 percent of the total output value of large manufacturing enterprises, reflecting the growing role of cleaner production in the economy.

Meanwhile, China is expanding its efforts to capture and store carbon emissions. On October 4, construction of the underwater jacket for the country's first offshore carbon-injection gas platform was completed in the Dongfang 1-1 gas field off Hainan Province. Once operational, it will be able to store more than 1 million tonnes of carbon dioxide underground each year.

China plans to establish 500 zero-carbon factories by 2030, helping develop models that other manufacturers can follow. It also aims to further reduce emissions and increase the use of non-fossil energy as it advances towards its carbon goals.
