[Green Highlights] Vertical Forests: Cities Breathing with Nature
: :

Imagine a forest rising vertically into the sky—not in a sci-fi movie, but in the heart of a bustling city. This vision is real in Milan and Nanjing, thanks to Italian architect Stefano Boeri. His acclaimed “Bosco Verticale” (Vertical Forest) in Milan—a pair of plant-covered residential towers—earned global recognition and inspired Asia’s first vertical forest in Nanjing.

Nanjing’s Green Towers surpass Milan’s in height and feature over 3,500 plants from 23 species, creating 6,000 sqm of greenery. Acting as an urban lung, they produce 60 kg of oxygen daily—the equivalent of 1.3 hectares of forest. The vegetation changes with the seasons, reduces energy use, and combats the urban heat island effect. It also filters pollutants and enhances biodiversity.

The taller tower houses offices, a museum, an eco-architecture school, and a private club. The shorter one includes a 247-room hotel with a rooftop pool. These towers aren’t just structures—they’re a model for future cities, blending architecture and ecology.
