Hong Kong’s men’s rugby sevens team delivered a landmark victory on Friday night, capturing gold on home soil with a gripping 26–19 win over Shandong in the final of the 15th National Games Rugby Sevens Competition. Playing before a packed and energised crowd at Kai Tak Main Stadium, the hosts powered through the tournament undefeated, sealing one of Hong Kong’s seven gold medals so far – and their first earned at home.
The triumph rounded off an exhilarating evening of men’s and women’s finals, showcasing the city’s growing strength in the sport. Their achievement also activated a HK$1.5 million reward under the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme, recognising the squad’s collective excellence. Under the scheme, individual gold medallists receive HK$750,000, while team golds secure HK$1.5 million.
