Hong Kong students delivered an impressive performance at the 26th Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO 2026), bringing home one gold medal, six bronze medals and one honourable mention from the prestigious regional competition held in Korea from May 17 to 25.

More than 200 top secondary school students from 27 countries and regions took part in the Olympiad, which aims to foster excellence in physics education and inspire young scientific talent across Asia.

Leading Hong Kong’s achievements was Liu Lincoln of Sha Tin College, who won a gold medal and earned Best Performance in the Theoretical Examination after achieving a perfect score in the theory paper. Hong Kong students also secured six bronze medals and one honourable mention.

The students were selected and trained through enrichment programmes organised by the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education, reflecting the city’s continued commitment to nurturing young scientific talent.
