Cultural Hong Kong: New look and new lif...

This is Luen Wo Market in Fanling of Hong Kong. Built in 1951, it is a Grade 3 historic building which was once the largest market in the New Territories. It was a bustling hub where residents could purchase daily necessities like vegetables and fish, complemented by an array of open-air stalls and shop-houses in the surrounding area.

Now it has been revitalized into the ‘Luen Wo Market – House of Urban and Rural Living,’ for showing the livelihood and market culture in the New Territories to the public and promoting local agricultural products.

Since its launch earlier this year, “Luen Wo Market – House of Urban and Rural Living” has introduced a variety of community engagement activities, including performances, workshops, and guided tours. To celebrate its reopening, the market hosted its first bazaar, showcasing local handicrafts and offering delicious snacks, creating a vibrant space for urban and rural interactions.

With its blend of heritage preservation and modern community engagement, Luen Wo Market is set to become a vital cultural and social hub in the New Territories, inviting everyone to explore and celebrate local traditions.
