Hong Kong leads the world in workplace AI adoption, with 72.7% of employees using AI tools daily or weekly, according to a new study by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).

The study, conducted by HKUST Business School between March and April 2026, surveyed 3,722 working professionals across industries and job levels. Generative AI was the most widely used application, with 81.66% of regular AI users turning to it for tasks including document preparation, information analysis and creative work.

Nearly 80% of respondents said AI has improved their efficiency, productivity and work quality, while most viewed it as changing rather than replacing jobs. However, more than half of junior employees were concerned about their skills losing value, and nearly 60% had received no AI training despite strong interest in developing relevant skills.

The findings highlight the need to strengthen AI training as Hong Kong advances its “AI+” agenda. HKUST is expanding AI literacy and Human-AI Co-Creation education to equip students with practical skills for an increasingly AI-enabled workplace.
