Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) models are gaining wider real-world adoption overseas, with major international platforms increasingly incorporating them into commercial services.
Amazon Web Services has integrated GLM-5.3, the latest flagship model from China’s Z.ai, into its Amazon Bedrock platform, with revenue to be shared based on customer usage. AWS has also added six other open-weight Chinese models, including DeepSeek V3.2, MiniMax M2.1 and Alibaba’s Qwen3 Coder Next.
Usage data highlights the growing global reach of these models. OpenRouter data showed Chinese models processed about 57.46 trillion tokens in the week ending Sunday, more than three times the 16.2 trillion handled by US models. Chinese models have led weekly usage on the platform for 23 consecutive weeks.
On Hugging Face, an AI model-sharing and development platform, Chinese-developed models accounted for about 41 percent of downloads over the past year, reflecting strong interest from developers worldwide and growing commercial potential across Southeast Asia, Gulf markets and Latin America.
