[China Thrills] From Blooms to Harvest: Lotus Powers Economy
: :

At the thousand-acre Space Lotus Base in Jinshen Village, Anhui Province, farmers are currently busy picking the plump pods. Lotus has no doubt become a powerful new driver for rural revitalization in the area.

Local villagers said, the introduction of high-yield, premium lotus varieties has brought steady employment and income to the community. In spring, they are occupied with weeding and fertilizing the fields. When summer arrives and the lotuses are in full bloom, the area draws tourists from across the country for sightseeing and eco-educational tours.

By early autumn, the lotus base produces an average of 5,000 kg of fresh lotus seeds daily. The local processing chain is highly efficient: freshly picked seed pods are immediately sent to processing zones where machines hull and dry the seeds for preservation. Other parts of the plant—leaves, flowers, and even the cores—are also utilized, turned into products like herbal tea and traditional medicine ingredients, maximizing the economic value of each lotus.

Moving forward, the village will further explore the cultural and commercial potential of the lotus, expanding related industries to sustain the growth of the rural economy.
