The City University of Hong Kong Hangzhou Innovation Research Institute has officially opened. The institute bridges the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Yangtze River Delta innovation ecosystems. It aims to showcase a successful example of Hong Kong, Macao and international R&D talent integrating into China's development agenda, and to connect the full chain of innovation elements across academia, research, industry, government and capital.
Professor Wang Junling, dean of the institute, noted its primary focus on three frontier areas: artificial intelligence, energy materials and biomedicine. By aligning disciplines with application scenarios, linking academic study with entrepreneurship, and pursuing a dual-driven model of funding and platforms, the institute can provide young talent with full-cycle support from research to startup.
The institute's first batch projects were signed on the same day, and City University of Hong Kong's innovation and entrepreneurship training series will soon be launched. Going forward, the institute will promote mutual recognition of qualifications, resource sharing and cross-regional service between the Greater Bay Area and the Yangtze River Delta, offering replicable and scalable experience for similar innovation partnerships nationwide.
