China is attracting growing numbers of international visitors this summer, driven by its rich cultural heritage, expanding visa-free policies and more convenient travel services.

More than 22 million foreign nationals entered China in the first half of 2026, a 20.4 percent increase from a year earlier. Around three quarters of arrivals benefited from visa-free entry, supported by measures including simplified mobile payments and instant duty-free tax refunds at departure.

Visitors are exploring historic landmarks alongside everyday local experiences, from traditional park activities to modern digital lifestyles. Many are also embracing Chinese culture through local crafts, contemporary designs inspired by traditional aesthetics and regional cuisine.

The country's cultural appeal is also extending beyond major cities. Some overseas visitors are planning trips to Guangdong Province after watching the hit romantic film Dear You, whose story, inspired by the historic ‘qiaopi’ tradition, has helped spark interest in its filming locations.
