[China Travelogue] Wuhan’s Village Becomes a Harvest Canvas for the Shaiqiu Festival

Step into Dayuwan in Wuhan, and you enter a living painting. Fiery red chilies, golden corn, and orange pumpkins drape roofs and windowsills, while households arrange crops into creative patterns to celebrate the good life.

The scene is part of the third annual Shaiqiu, China’s autumn tradition of drying crops. The harvest spectacle drew locals and visitors to snap photos and join the fun. In nearby paddy fields, villagers cut ripe rice by hand with sickles, and some tourists even joined in to feel the rhythm of harvest work.

With colorful produce on display, the festival showcases village tradition, pastoral charm, and local pride. This autumn, Dayuwan and surrounding farms expect to harvest nearly 100,000 kilograms of rice, corn, pumpkin, chili, chestnut, and radish — turning bounty into a bright, communal celebration.
