More than 100 tundra swans have arrived at a lotus pond in Jiangsu Province, transforming the tranquil wetlands of Jianhu County, Yancheng, into a lively winter scene. The 33-hectare area is a regular stopover for the species, where the birds glide across calm waters and move playfully through the reeds, adding vitality to the countryside.
Their return draws birdwatchers and photography enthusiasts each year. “I’ve been here many times already, just waiting for the swans,” said photo hobbyist Xu Zhengyan.
Local conservationists say the wetland’s clean water and ample space provide ideal conditions. A recent survey recorded 154 arriving swans. “They arrived as scheduled. As time goes by, more tundra swans will come… The conditions here are extremely favourable for their habitation,” noted Zhou Chenxi of the Yancheng Birdwatching Association.
