A patchwork of pink, purple, and white spider flowers (Cleome spinosa) is drawing visitors to Hongcheng Park in southern China. Swarms of butterflies flit through the beds as the blossoms carpet the sloping flowerbeds in layered colour.
The plants grow to about one metre tall and thrive in hot, sunny conditions. Planted on a gentle slope, the beds create strong visual depth: walking along the narrow paths reveals tiered perspectives, while crouching low makes it easy to capture shots that appear as if the subject is surrounded by a sea of flowers.
For the best photos, visitors are advised to wear light-coloured clothing or dresses so they stand out against the vivid blooms. The display offers an easy, picture-ready outing that combines nature watching with casual outdoor portrait photography.
