[China Travelogue] Guiyang’s Floral Paradise: Turning Day-Trippers into Multi-Day Staycationers
: :

At the height of summer, Guiyang, known as “China’s Summer Resort Capital,” draws crowds with its refreshingly cool climate. The city is stepping up its game by developing more high-quality attractions, with Guizhou Plum Garden as a prime example.

Once known mainly for its plum blossoms, which bloom from January to March, the garden has since transformed into a year-round floral paradise, with hydrangeas, sunflowers and lotuses now in the mix. Among them, the summer crown jewel is the breathtaking sea of hydrangeas spanning 67 hectares. Home to more than 350,000 plants from nearly 60 varieties, the blooms paint the slopes in shades of blue, purple, pink, white and green, drawing throngs of visitors eager to snap photos.

Ms. Zhong, Visitor from outside Guizhou:

“Guiyang is wonderfully cool and scenic—a true summer getaway. I’ll definitely recommend it to my family and friends.”

Since the hydrangeas came into bloom in mid-May, the park has welcomed about 250,000 visitors, with out-of-province guests making up a growing share. Total revenue has surpassed 20 million yuan, and the outlook remains bright.

Mr. Bai, Park Director:

“Going forward, we’ll introduce more species to enrich the landscape while upgrading dining, camping and accommodation options. Our goal is to turn day-trippers into multi-day staycationers.”
